I thought you deserved an update as to how my time in England is being spent. So far I've successfully navigated the Tube and downtown London. Yesterday I started my day off with a delicious cappuccino and almond croissant and continued on to the shopping scene downtown. I hit Oxford Street and High St. Kensington where the very large Westfield mall. Strolling through "The Village", I realized how nice it must be to be rich, although carrying all those Louis Vuitton bags can get heavy. I prefer to pack light.
Victoria & Albert Museum:
Lovely museum filled with everything from sculpture from the 1600's to scaled down modern architecture. Some of my favorite exhibits there were the wall of old keys and locks, the architecture display on the top level, and the fashion section featuring men and women's fashion through the ages.

National Portrait Gallery: (no photography allowed)
By far my favorite of the three museums I've visited so far, which is entirely due to the incredible contemporary portraiture exhibit. I plan on revisiting before my departure. Also in the gallery was the first portrait of Kate Middleton. Personally, I thought it made her look rather old, but still well constructed.
National Gallery: (no photography allowed)
Although I liked the Portrait Gallery better overall, the National Gallery had some of my favorite artists and pieces. Pissarro, Panini, Seurat, Da Vinci, Sarto, Michelangelo, Poussin... I sat two feet from Van Gogh's Sunflowers. There are not words.
I can't wait to fall in love elsewhere in Europe. Can I just sit and draw from famous artists works all day long?!
We got a bit of a snow day here in London today. As much as 30 cm of snow fell in England. We got a measly 2 cm or so, but it was a toasty -2 degrees C all day. |
